Rainy Season : Protect yourself from Seasonal Diseases
The
cool, tiny rain drops comes as a blessing after immense heat of summers.
Rain
marks the beginning of Visarg kala (Dakshinayan). The sun enters Southern Solstice.
The winds, clouds and rain weakens the sun and moon becomes more powerful and
so we start restoring our natural 'Bala' strength.
Rainy
season brings health challenges too.
1. Weakens
Digestion: Our‘Agni’ digestive fire gets low in this season so
gastrointestinal problems like indigestion, bloating, and acidity pops up.
Solution:
- Start your
meal with Ginger piece sprinkled with salt.
2. Joint Pain: This cloudy, cool season causes
stiffness and pain in chronic cases of Arthritis
Remedy:
- Boil water mix with ‘Shunthi’
powder. This prevents ‘Ama` formation.
3. Skin Problems: Damp and
humid environment supports the growth of fungus and bacteria which causes skin
ailments
Solution:
- Boil ‘Neem’ leaves and mix it with
bathing water.
4. Increase in Hair fall: excess
humidity causes more hair fall.
Solution:
- Apply curd mix with black pepper in hair.
- Consume 'Amla'.
5. Dengue & Chikungunya: Mosquitoes
breed in stagnant water and can cause malaria,dengue and chikungunya.
Remedy:
- Burn neem leaves in house.
- Burn karpoor this kills mosquito.
6. TriDoshas (bodily humour): change in season brings changes
in our bodily doshas. Almost all the doshas get derranged. Vata gets
aggravated and Pitta Dosha starts getting accumulated.
Solution:
- Follow Dietary guidelines. Do not sleep
in daytime.
7. Cough and Cold: Due
to change in season we become prone to respiratory tract infections.
Solution:
- Add pinch of
Haldi in milk; boil and drink regularly.
- Giloy can be used as 'Rasayana'.
To
keep seasonal diseases at bay-
1. Eat Right
Eat
fresh produce at all the times of year year, preferably those that are grown
locally.
- Add Honey to your meals.
- Consume lentils which are light to digest
(Moong).
- On cloudy days eat sour, salty and oily
food this keeps doshas in balance.
- Water is heavy to digest and becomes
easily contaminated so it should be boiled; cooled and then used.
2. Preserve
'Agni'
- Eat barley,
wheat and rice they are light and easy to digest
- Start your
meal with small piece of Ginger with added salt
- Add Haritaki (Terminala
Chebula) with sprinkled salt to your daily routine.
- Curd lovers
can start eating it; but mixed with 'Panchkola' (Pippali,
Pippalimool Chavya, Chitrak and Shunthi mix. It increases appetite,
relieves bloating, abdominal colic pain and indigestion.
3. Protection
from Skin Ailments
- Do not walk
bare foot it may cause fungal infection or disease like ‘Alas’ (Chilblain
)
- Since the
season is very humid skin pores gets blocked with sweat and impurities one
should get Udwartan and Udgharshan (ayurvedic
powder massages) .They cleanse the skin and removes impurities.
- Wear loose
cotton clothes.
4. Balance
'Tridoshas'
In this season
VPK gets imbalance and in future may cause several health issues so one must
get take Panchkarma therapies under medical supervision. It detoxify and
rejuvenates entire system.
