Irritable Bowel Syndrome : IBS/ Grahani

In my daily practice out of 10 patients 2 or 3 people come to me complaining that they need to go to washroom 4 to 10 times o reven more than that to pass stool , especially soon after eating something.

The bowel movement can be loose, semisolid with pain , without pain , with mucous or without.

Other symptoms :

Thirst, nausea, tastelessness in mouth, salivation in mouth, fever, pain in joints and bones.

This disease is known as Grahani/ IBS/ Sprue.

To understand this problem we have to understand two terms:

AGNI  i.e. Digestive fire .

Agni is the basis of life.

Whatever food we eat gets digested with agni and ras dhatu is formed. which gets converted one by one into other dhatus ( nutritive levels ) are formed one after the other. This is known as biotransformation of food.

If this AGNI (digestive juices ) is low or weak food will not be digested properly and instead of converting into ras dhatu will remain as a byproduct AAM it is an endotoxin.

Aam causes many diseases one among them is Grahani.

GRAHANI :  term here is used for small intestine.

Grahani is derived from the word grahan ; to accept or restrain the food.

Here it means where digestion and absorption of food takes place.

When agni is low or weak it will not digest the food properly and convert food into Aam . This is sticky in nature. Grahani tries to eliminate it iout of the body , since it is sticky there are many motions to expel Aam out of the body and this is how Irritable Bowel Syndrome manifests into our body.
